Cromgard meets ASME specification
Cromgard, the leading brand of utility stainless steel in the United States is now certified to ASME IIa SA240M UNS S41003. This complements it exisiting specifications including ASTM A240 UNS S41003, EN 10088-2 1.4003 and EN 10028-7 1.4003.
The inclusion in the ASME standard opens opportunities for the steel in pressure applications specified to ASME requirements, and complements its already existing specification to Euorpoean standard EN 10028-7 1,4003, which covers stainless steel flat products for pressure purposes.
Cromgard, formerly marketed as 3CR12, is promoted by American Utility Metals, as the low cost option for stainless steel. It has a long standing proven abilities in a wide range of applications including Bus & Coach, Rail, Material Handling, Water Treatment, Electronic Enclosures, Sugar Processing, Hot Gas Ducting as well as a wide range of general engineering projects.
First introduced in the late seventies, utility stainless steels began to be marketed in the United States in the early nineties by Cromweld Steels Limited, working in conjunction with national distributors. Phil Gilston, AUM's Technical Director, has been actively developing utility stainless steels in the USA since its introduction, and continues to promote the product in his role at AUM.
He says "this development offers a significant opprtunity to introduce the utility stainless steel Cromgard to a new audience, allowing the benefits of the low cost option to be enjoyed in new applications in the process industry"
